Safe Homes is meant to raise awareness, encourage communication and foster a sense of responsibility in both parents and teens. The signing of this pledge does not change your legal responsibilities, rather it is meant to show your commitment to keeping all our children safe.
I will provide visible and active adult supervision at all teenage parties or group gatherings in my home. I will not allow parties or group gatherings in my home when I am not here.
I will not knowingly allow teens to use alcohol or other illegal drugs in my home or on my property.
I understand that my name will e included on a list of parents signing this pledge. I know that this list may be printed in the Scarsdale media and will be indicated in the High School directory while my children are attending Scarsdale High School.
Just The Facts:
-
An adult serving alcohol to a minor may be subject to arrest for violation of Penal Law Section 260.10, endangering the welfare of a child, a Class A misdemeanor. The adult may also be exposed to civil liability for any injury or damage as a result of intoxication of a minor.
-
Young people who start drinking before age 15 are four times as likely to become alcohol-dependent as those who begin drinking at age 21.
-
Research tells us that the human brain does not fully develop until around age 21, and consuming alcohol before that time can cause damage to parts of the brain that handle memory and cognition.
-
More teens try marijuana for the first time in the summer months than any other time of the year. Supervised and occupied teens are far less likely to try marijuana.
A Community Commitment
